2009 China Li-ion battery technology industry development trend analysis report

The depletion of traditional energy resources and environmental pressure, the development of new energy vehicles have become the national Government is positive about the “key.” And substituting lithium battery-powered pure electric vehicles is becoming a hot international competition.

Recently, in the industrial and information technology in order to organize the “pure electric car industry, Opportunities and Challenges” as the theme of the electric car industry development forum, workers, said Miao Wei, vice minister of the letter, pure electric vehicles from the era of commercialization is not too Yuan, Li-ion battery electric vehicles will be China’s future development priorities.

“Lithium battery is a relatively good performance of the battery, the global electric vehicle batteries are mainly used lithium batteries. In China, the production of lithium batteries also have the advantage.” Jia Xinguang, senior automotive industry experts said, “The reason why the development of electric vehicles is not up is mainly subject to the battery. Therefore, the battery can not be separated to develop on this core technology. “currently the best hope to obtain the industrialization of the battery technology is lithium iron phosphate battery (LiFePO4). China’s major iron phosphate lithium dell vostro 1500 battery manufacturers and the Wanxiang Group, BYD, BYD one of the world’s cobalt lithium battery market of 30%.

China’s development of electric cars is most difficult to charge users, unlike Europe and the United States, has an exclusive resident garage can be used. Jia Xinguang said that at present the domestic establishment of hundreds of thousands of gas stations to spend a few dell vostro 1520 battery  decades, but it is impossible to spend a few decades to build charging stations. Therefore, the urgent need for charging, charging the solution needed to support national policies and infrastructure construction.

Miao Wei, vice minister of industry, said the letter, but in the long term, large-scale commercialization of electric vehicles to promote the need for battery industry and power grids, municipal infrastructure, and many other supporting facilities.

Deputy Minister of Finance Zhang Shao-chun in the electric car industry development forum, said the revitalization plans in the automotive industry has made it clear in public transportation, rental and sanitation and other priority areas, including pure electric dell vostro 1700 battery vehicles, including the promotion of energy-saving and new energy vehicles, and identify 13 pilot projects city.

It is understood that most of these cities, the government has produced a specific implementation plan, and started to cooperate with the automobile business. The FAW, Dongfeng, BYD, and other enterprises have adjusted their development strategies, increase new energy and electric dell vostro 2510 battery vehicle research and development input.

“Of course, in the promotion of public transport and other priority areas of research and development production of large enterprises, they can through the government to buy.” But in the long run, Jia Xinguang think that for China to achieve a pure electric vehicle commercialization of age, there is still a long way to go . Commercial implications, that is, sales market is dell RN873 accepted by the market, rather than rely on government subsidies to the policy-driven.

Of which contains a market position on the issue. Every year over 10 million sales of electric bicycles, and its complete industry chain is expected to extend to the field of pure electric vehicles. Jia Xinguang pointed out that in Europe, electric vehicles are mainly two-seat, and a number of small businesses are doing, while positioning our country in this respect is not the case. “We are targeting a market electric vehicles should be those riding a bike, but can not be targeted to those who ride high-end cars. After all, electric cars get replaced by BMW Mercedes-Benz is reluctant to dell GW240.”

“Management can not be overlooked issue is a big problem.” Jia Xinguang told reporters that the state licenses for the production of pure electric vehicles, the issuance of the policy is not introduced, there is no corresponding measures to manage. This is likely to lead to market confusion.

Obviously, a pure electric vehicle for China to achieve the era of commercialization is still some way to go. dell Inspiron 1525 battery.

The 10-inch MSI wind is popular

One of our favorite new netbook laptops is the 10-inch MSI Wind, which has decent specs and performance, but is saddled with a terrible 3-cell battery–we got about two hours max from it. MSI blamed supply chain problems for preventing the initial run of the Wind from shipping with the more common 6-cell battery found in systems like the Asus Eee PC 901.

Now we hear that the 6-cell version is on the way, already popping up for pre-order in several online stores. There’s a catch, though; the new Sony battery jacks up the cost by $50, bringing the total price to $550, passing our magic $499 netbook optimal-price point. Asus also offers a 10-inch model with similar specs for $550, the Eee PC 1000H, but both these systems have standard hard drives, not the SSD drives found in most netbooks.

We’re currently testing new netbooks from Acer, Asus and Sylvania, so stay tuned for a serious netbook shootout to find which one is right for you. Sony VGP-BPS2,Sony VGP-BPS2A,Sony VGP-BPL2.

What will you do when your battery car has given you a low battery warning?

Imagine that you’re driving your future electric car down the road, and it gives you a low battery warning. What do you do? Instead of spending a few hours at a recharging station, new battery technology being developed by the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany would let you pull into a service station and refill the battery with an electrolytic liquid.

The Fraunhofer Institute is using a redox flow battery, a type of cell that uses two electrolytic fluids exchanging protons through a membrane. This process generates electricity. Although this type of ibm laptop battery isn’t new, the Fraunhofer Institute improved the energy density, making it equivalent to that of a lithium ion battery.

In production cars such as the Tesla Roadster, the lithium ion battery pack requires almost four hours from a quick charger to go about 200 miles. A redox flow battery service station would pump out the discharged electrolytic fluid from your car’s ibm thinkpad r52 battery, replacing it with charged fluid, most likely in a matter of minutes. Instead of getting new shipments of charged fluid, similar to how current service stations rely on tankers full of gasoline, the station could merely recharge the fluid on its premises, even using solar cells or a wind turbine.

Other companies are working on redox flow ibm thinkpad t40 battery technology for stationary energy storage.

The way to test notebooks

LAPTOP Battery Test
This test, developed in the LAPTOP labs, replicates continuous Web surfing over Wi-Fi until the battery is completely drained. Starting with a full battery, a notebook runs a script that visits 60 popular Web sites in a loop, pausing 33 seconds on each, then closing and reopening the Firefox browser with the next page. The test is run in Power Saver Satellite M40 battery mode, with the screen at 40 percent brightness, and the notebook’s settings are tweaked to prevent it from entering standby mode or going into hibernation.

LAPTOP Transfer Test
This benchmarking test was developed inside the LAPTOP labs. During this test, a 4.97GB folder of mixed media files, including photos, documents, videos, and music files, is copied from one folder on the notebook’s hard drive to another. We record the speed with which the Satellite M45 battery records the file. The average file-transfer score for a mainstream notebook is 17.8 MBps.

Boot Time
Using a stopwatch, we record the amount of time the Satellite M50 battery takes to boot from being completely shut down to the moment we have control of the desktop and all of the system tray items are loaded. The average boot time for a mainstream notebook (Windows) is about one minute.

Wireless Performance
Using Netperf, a benchmark suite that measures network performance, we test the throughput of a notebook’s internal Wi-Fi card at 15 and 50 feet from our test router. On average, a mainstream notebook scores 18.4 Mbps from 15 feet, and 15.7 Mbps from 50 feet. Satellite M55 battery.

Acer Aspire Timeline 3810T

After we posted our review of the HP Pavilion dv2, an alert reader emailed us to say that a BIOS update for the system would improve the dv2’s battery life and boot time.

Indeed, we were intrigued, as the dv2 had a paltry endurance of  2.5 hours, half that of the ultraportable average, and its boot time of 1 minute 4 seconds wasn’t all that hot, either.

So, after downloading and installing BIOS update F.07 (which can be found here), we reran the acer laptop battery provide power to the system whenever it’s unplugged.
Learn MoreLAPTOP Battery Test (Web surfing via Wi-Fi). We were pleased to see that the dv2 now lasted 3 hours; while it’s still well below the ultraportable average, we’ll take what we can get.

However, boot time remained the same. Unless the BIOS deletes all the trialware off the system, it’s doubtful that the system will start up any faster. Also, the machine remained as hot as ever: While idling, we the touchpad measured about 90 degrees Fahrenheit, the keyboard (between the G and H keys) registered 96 degrees, and the underside of the system (in the center, near the acer btp-43d1 battery) came in at 106 degrees. And that’s with the dv2’s fan working overtime, too.

So, while it’s nice that the dv2 gets better battery life than before, our original rating of three stars for the system remains unchanged.acer btp52ew battery, acer aspire 5920 battery, acer aspire 5520 battery, acer travelmate 220 battery.

3 Things We Like About the Sony VAIO W Series

One of the things I have found endearing about Sony in the past is their refusal to label their netbook-like machines netbooks. Even though both the VAIO P and X have Intel Atom inside, the vendor hoped that their other attributes would launch them into the realm of high-end ultraportables. The price tags hurt my heart, though, especially because that VAIO X is definitely one slick notebook.

Thankfully, Sony saw fit to release a netbook we can actually call a netbook with the VAIO W series. This sweet little number landed in our offices this week and we’ve been putting it through its paces. The full review is coming soon, but here are three things we like best:

The Display: HD resolutions on 10.1-inch screens don’t always work out, but we’re definitely not left squinting with the VAIO P. We’re enjoying the screen real estate as well as the ability to watch HD videos. Bright colors, Sony VGP-BPS2,true blacks, and good horizontal angles earn the display an A.

The Design: Our review model came with the “Sugar White” lid and a sea green deck — a combination that actually works. The silver metal keyboard and touchpad help bring the elegance. Because this particular scheme may be a bit too feminine for the guys, the VAIO W also comes in Navy Blue.

The Software: It’s not chock full of goodies like the HP Mini 5102, but this netbook comes with a nice range of free included software. The standout here is the ArcSoft Webcam Companion that will not only allow you to add fun filters, frames,Sony VGP-BPS2A, and avatars to your video chats but also edit captured video. It’s really only for trimming, but that’s more than most vendors offer. (Check out the video I made with the webcam below.)

Of course no netbook is perfect, and we strive for balance. Here are three things we don’t like about the VAIO W:

The Keyboard: This one is a bit of a cheat because we don’t actually dislike the keyboard that much. It offers good feedback and has a nice design. We just don’t understand why Sony made it so small. There’s an extra half an inch left over on either side Sony VGP-BPL2 which should have been better utilized. Then Sony could have avoided smushing the keys on the edge of the keyboard, including the much messed-with Shift key on the right.

The Battery: With a battery that pokes out of the bottom this much, you’d expect some stellar battery life to go with it. Unfortunately, that’s not the case here. The Sony did well on our battery tests, but not as well as the Toshiba mini NB305 or the ASUS Eee PC 1005PE-P, both of which hold smaller batteries but manage longer life. How long did it last? You’ll have to wait for the full review. But we will say that it’s above the current 6-cell battery average at least.

The Price: $449 is a lot to pay for a netbook these days, especially with the competition often keeping it under $400 and the Acer Aspire 532h flaunting its $299 price tag around town. Consumers are willing to pay more for better performance or Sony VGP-BPS8, Sony VGP-BPS8A life or design, yes. Will the VAIO W inspire them to open their wallets? Again, you’ll have to wait for the full review to find out.

MSI’s Dual-screen 7-inch and 10-inch Netbooks

MSI unveiled two prototype dual-screen Windows 7 netbooks at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Thursday: a model with two 7-inch screens and another with two 10-inch screens.

The devices both use LCD touch screens, run Microsoft’s Windows 7 OS and have Intel Menlow microprocessors inside for longer-lasting batteries, an MSI representative said. A one-cell Inspiron 1521 battery can power the devices for six hours, he said. Data storage for them is on solid-state drives, either 32GB or 64GB.

The dual-screen netbooks are designed for use as mini-laptops as well as e-readers. The use of LCD screens instead of digital-ink screen technology on the netbooks will make the devices less expensive because LCD technology is already widely Inspiron 1520 battery used and cheaper than digital ink. But LCD screens give off light in a way that causes people’s eyes to tire.

Digital-ink-based screen technologies were developed to combat the impact of computer screens on the eyes by making the digital ink more similar to reading the printed page with an external light such as a lamp or daylight.

The devices are not in production, but the MSI representative said if anyone wanted to place an order, they could be mass-produced at any time. MSI is a contract manufacturer but also RN873 markets some of its own products. The company has no plan to market the devices itself.

Asustek Computer also had its dual-screen netbook on display at CES, one it showed at the CEBIT electronics show in Germany last March. The prototype sports two 11-inch or 12-inch touch screens and was created due in part to user queries to a Web site, WePC.com., that Asustek set up to allow GW240 users to send in ideas. An Asustek representative said the device is a project the company has worked on with Intel.

Asustek said a dual e-reader/notebook was one possibility, and that the two screens could also be used together for widescreen movies or other videos.

MSI also showed off an e-reader running Google’s Android OS. The device has a 10-inch LCD touch screen and uses Nvidia’s Arm-based Tegra chips inside. The LCD e-reader is also ready for production but is not something MSI will Inspiron 1525 battery,Inspiron 1526 batterymarket itself, the representative said.

MacBook Pro and the Battery

Reader Bill Grant has a problem with power, specifically the battery in his MacBook Pro. He writes:

Recently, my MacBook Pro has been behaving strangely. I charge the battery over night, yet the battery menu constantly flickers between estimating a fully-charged state and telling me that the battery isn’t charging. When running from Sony battery power, I see a readout of about half full and then the computer shuts off abruptly. Any idea what’s going on?

It’s quite likely you have a bad battery. From the Apple menu choose About This Mac and then click the More Info button in the resulting window. When System Profiler appears, select the Power entry and eyeball the Health Information entry. If, under Condition, it says “Check Battery,” that Sony VGP-BPS2 battery is probably on the fritz.

Fortunately, these batteries are under an extended replacement program as they’re defective. Apple has issued a document that outlines symptoms a defective battery might exhibit as well as a link to a software update that can fix some Sony VGP-BPS2A battery issues. If the software fix doesn’t work, you should follow the document’s advice and contact Apple about having the battery replaced.

The company’s LCD screens include technology to absorb natural light sources to brighten screens

One Laptop Per Child spin-off Pixel Qi on Thursday said it will soon start shipping low-power screens that could increase laptop battery life by up to 50 percent.

The company’s LCD (liquid crystal display) screens include technology to absorb natural light sources to brighten screens, said Mary Lou Jepsen, founder and CEO of Pixel Qi. That helps save battery life as it reduces the need for a backlight, which is used to light up conventional laptop screens.

“Instead of cranking up the backlight to fight sunlight or the light of the office overhead fluorescent tubes, we realized we could use the brilliant ambient light in the image itself, saving power,” said Jepsen.

A casual laptop user may see Inspiron E1405 battery life jump from three hours to four-and-a-half hours by switching to the light-powered screens, Jepsen said. The new screens will provide full color depth and refresh rates that are comparable to conventional laptop screens.

The screens pull as much ambient light from sources as possible, but the technology may not work effectively for users watching DVD movies in dark rooms, Jepsen said.

“The conventional LCD screens in computers are just miniature LCD-TVs. That’s perfect, if all you want to do is watch movies all day, sitting in a darkened room, with the device plugged in,” Jepsen said, in an e-mail interview.

Low power consumption of the screen, one of the more power-hungry components on a laptop, could lead to cheaper and lighter laptops, Jepsen said.

“Instead of putting six XPS M140 battery cells into this model, I’ll try fewer or use less-powerful cells, making the machine lighter and cheaper, and the battery life exactly the same,” Jepsen said.

The small bump in battery life isn’t close to Jepsen’s previous plans of laptop battery life between 20 and 40 hours. However, Jepsen said Pixel Qi is working to blur the line between the screen and motherboard, which could boost battery life more.

“We’ll get to larger power savings later so the screen can enable much longer Latitude D820 battery life, but for that we need the manufacturers to make changes in the motherboard, which will come in 2010-11,” Jepsen said.

The screens will ship for sampling in a few months and be in laptops by the middle of the year, Jepsen said. Initially, the company will ship 10-inch screens. She didn’t name PC makers that would eventually use those screens in laptops.

A variant of Pixel Qi’s low-power screen technology was first implemented in OLPC’s XO laptops. That effort was led by Jepsen, who formerly was OLPC’s chief technology officer and contributed to a patent in low-power screen design.

She stirred up a controversy when she left nonprofit OLPC in 2007 to start the for-profit Pixel Qi, with the goal to create a US$75 laptop using technologies she invented at OLPC. The company is now focusing on Latitude D830 battery development of low-power screens.
